Latest Trends in Unisex Wear

When Julie Andrews sang these lines, girls did wear white dresses with blue satin sashes.
But now it is only on occasion that you find girls strutting around in dresses. Boys were seen in shirt tucked in pants, with a vest and hair neatly combed. As times changed, clothes have undergone a metamorphosis. Every day clothes or casual clothes are really altering the boundaries of who wears what.

Girls don't have enough clothes to wear. And guys always have the same thing to wear. It is a universal phenomenon. Now what would happen if everyone could wear everything and there was no such demarcation about who has to wear what.
It was in the sixties that women started venturing out in wearing clothes meant for men, like T-shirts and jeans. And with little or almost no alterations, this became a universal phenomenon.
Wearing unisex clothes is not randomly picking up some clothes. Unisex wear means the cut is suitable for guys and the gals and it accentuates both the male and female bodies. Right from the cut, color, comfort and design, anything that is designed as to wear will be worn by everyone. No reservations here. What is cool for the guys has become hot for the gals.
Mostly denims, corduroy, cotton, Lycra, rexine, are used to make unisex clothes. The range of textures used are also amazing. Certain colors were not used by men's clothing manufacturers. Pink was certainly a girl's color. But now guys have shirts and Tees in pink and they are openly embracing such feminine colors. Women's clothing have ransacked all the colors, textures under the sun and yet the find something alluring in the comfort of suits, vests, khakis and cargos. The main purpose of such clothing being comfort and style.
Mostly worn for outdoor purposes, these are available throughout the year, unlike summer clothing or winter clothing. There is hardly any maintenance required for these. No need to dry clean or iron them everyday. It is such a relief to wear comfortable clothes that require just a wash and nothing else.
Earlier it was mostly sports wear that was probably worn by everyone without any discrimination. But now everyday casual wear is the in thing. Right from a just born baby to a 70 year old, perhaps there is an extended choice in getting Unisex clothes.
Though there is a long way for the trends in unisex wear to penetrate more in the markets, it is however going in the right direction. Infants, kids, teens, tweens almost everyone are more drawn towards the Unisex wear.
Khakis, chinos, shorts, cargo pants, sweat pants, are universally acknowledged as unisex wear. A recent trend is layering. Be it for guys or gals, layering works better to highlight the good features and camouflage the not so good ones. Capris are soon catching up as trend. It works both ways as an upscale high-end classy wear to everyday routine to the grocery store. And as a unisex wear, it clearly is a winner for everyone.
Skeptics raise a finger saying that men's clothing with a little adjustment are unisex clothing. But it isn't like that. Because low- waist, boot- cut jeans are trendy clothes which are popular unisex wear. So is embroidery on jeans, shirts, Tees, a little sequin here and there, which works out fine for every body. And soft pastel color shirts and tees are as popular with men as camouflage clothing is popular with women.
In all probability, the clothing of an age defines the society. Just as work culture, attitudes, lifestyles are changing, so the dressing habits. Comfort, style, and function are what defines Unisex wear.
