Spring Forward into Fashion
By Amy Dunn

Spring of '08 is here and with the warmer weather and your brighter complexion comes some sassy spring trends. As with every season, some trends are carry-overs from winter, some are slight modifications of last spring, and some are shockingly new and will blow your wool tights off!
So many favorites are emerging this season it is hard to pick just one. The good news is you don't have to! From the flowy, soft dresses to the light, girlie scarves everything this season is pretty, pretty, pretty!
Dresses are getting a huge makeover this season and we couldn't be happier. Bubble-hemmed skirts and dresses that were brought back a couple of years ago are totally in for this spring. Ruffles are back but in a much more subtle way. Tops, skirts, and dresses are re-introducing the ruffle in a minimal way to add a feminine touch to otherwise "safe" pieces. And that satin trend from winter is not going anywhere, but the palate of colors has changed to fit a fresh new season. Instead of wearing rich, jewel-tones in satin opt for earthy colors like creamy mocha brown and buttery pale yellow.
Out are the long dresses from last spring; this season it is all about the short, airy dresses in comfy fabrics like cotton. These dresses are coming in a variety of colors and designs, ranging from soft pastels to bold graphic prints. Most of them boast the flattering empire waist and all of them are sure to be on your "Top Ten" of spring list.
One of the funkiest trends this spring is the big, bold jewels. Baubles were big this past winter so keep right on wearing them through spring. If you didn't get your hands on some of these gems last season pick some up in lighter pastel colors like soft pink, icy blue, or creamy green and wear them with almost anything. These charms are great for dressing up jeans or a basic outfit during the day or adding a little more glitz and glamour to your evening wear.
Let's get back to the clothes! This season the high waist is everywhere. Whether you are going for a boat neck dress or some loose slacks, they are all high-waisted and all sophisticated. And the skinnier the belt, the better. This spring you can leave your skinny jeans in the closet. The newest trend in pants and jeans is the wide leg. So those of you who like to actually breathe in your pants can rejoice!
One trend we can always count on for the chillier months is the trench coat. High or natural waist, thick or thin belted, the trench coat is always the classiest way to cover up and keep warm while the weather shifts from cold to moderate. We may not have as much need for these on the west coast but admit it, you like wearing them!
The perfect addition to that stylish trench coat is a scarf, and this season they are so pretty there is no reason you shouldn't own one…or ten. The scarves in the new fashion lines are thin and dainty, adorned with shiny metallic threading or light fraying on the ends. And they come in some really fun shades, from punchy pinks to forest greens. These scarves are great for adding zip to a monochromatic look or to jeans and a tee.
Another seasonal find are purses in light shades but rich fabrics. Think a small tan bag in suede, or a large structured shoulder bag in white leather. Celebrities are going crazy for these hot new purses right now.
Between the flattering dresses, skirts, and tops and the fun jewelry, scarves, and bags, there is something for everyone this spring. So go out and get it!
