New Venue and President for Anza Historical Pageant

2010 marks the first year that the "Anza en Calabazas" historical pageant will be held at the Leonis Adobe Museum. This annual event has been produced by the Calabasas Anza Heritage Association (CAHA) since 1985. The pageant presents the story of an expedition led by Colonel Juan Batista de Anza in 1776 to bring Spanish settlers to California, and includes a regiment of soldiers and Spanish and Native American dancing and music.

This is also the first year that the pageant is presented under CAHA's new President. Bradley Bobbs, who has been on CAHA's Board of Directors since 2007, and has acted in the pageant since 2006. He also serves on the boards of three other local volunteer groups: Friends of the Calabasas Library (President), the Calabasas Historical Society (Historian), and the Calabasas Spotlight the Arts Foundation. Bobbs succeeds "Rattlin'' Ralph Lee Moss as past President of CAHA. Other members of the Board of Directors are Al Rosenberg, Don Adams, Arlene Bernholtz, and Robin Gensley Mitchell, whose mother Juliana Gensley, Ed.D., originally founded CAHA and created, produced, and directed the pageant.

"We are delighted to have the pageant hosted by the Leonis Adobe Museum, a place where local history comes alive," said Bobbs. "We especially encourage parents to bring their children to the pageant to learn about the important role that children played in the early development of the Calabasas community and California as a whole." The event, scheduled for Saturday April 24 at 2:00, will again be directed by Valerie Plaisance of Welby Way Magnet Elementary School. Those interested in helping with or performing in the pageant should contact Bobbs at dr_bobbs@hotmail.com or (818) 521-1769.
