Protein is Vital For Your Diet
By Art Saborio

Whey low carb protein drinks have been around for a long time. One of the biggest problems associated with protein, is carbs and fats. The protein in the drink was providing the essential mix necessary for our muscles, but the bad fats and non value additives caused a negative effect in our muscle growth. Drinks like Muscle Advance Protein Powder have revolutionized the muscle building industry and change our way of ingesting protein.

The days of worrying about trying to eat enough proteins with limiting carbs and fats are gone. Highly targeted proteins in today's protein drinks can actually build up your muscles get you in shape and improve your energy levels without the harmful carbs.

Is there a reason to add a low carb protein drink to your diet? Too many carbs can actually weigh your body down and slow your energy levels. Your peeks are lower and your muscles do not recover as quickly as with a drink that is closer to pure protein than not. Carbohydrates are hard to breakdown and have a negative impact on building lean muscle.
I am not saying carbs are bad for your body; it is the amount of carbs that can have a negative result. For those that want to build mass, then a follow up weight gainer drink is best.

Fitness Trainer Recommendations

Most sports athletes prefer to not only drink a protein drink before or during an intense workout session, but also right after. The protein does a great job of repairing the small tears that happen during your workout. Ingesting forty grams of protein within ninety 90 minutes of your workout has been shown to greatly increase recovery. Consuming the amino acids found in high quality protein drinks actually stimulates protein synthesis with provides a growth in the muscle. It also lessens the soreness often felt a few days after an intense workout.

Your protein shakes should include about 15 g of protein and 50 percent of its calories from carbohydrates. Both soy and whey protein drinks are a great way of getting your proteins. Keep in mind some can be allergic to Whey or Soy. If you experience an upset stomach after drinking either Soy or Whey, it is best to discontinue and which to a different for or protein intake. Yet in my experience with protein, I have only known one person who could not get their protein from a shake.

Body Builders

Most of these body builders you see on TV follow a very strict diet and supplement plan. They have trainers to help them stay at their top performance levels. Yet for regular people who work all day and just want to improve their bodies, it is best to keep the carbs low and protein up.

Muscles are aided by protein. They help in rebuilding the small tears that occur when the muscles are put through an intense workout. . Why is this important? the muscles tend to tear during heavy workout. It is the rebuilding of the small tears that cause muscles to grow and size to increase.

There is a danger of building scar tissue in the muscle. Not only does this make for uneven muscle growth, but it also can affect the health of the muscle.

A great way to enhance any body building program is by adding protein to your workout. It provides energy for longer workouts; it provides that extra edge for heavier lifts. After your workout is done, a protein drink will provide the required nutrients to help the muscles recover.

Using protein as a recovery aid to your workout means less soreness the day after and the following day. If you notice that your muscles are extremely sore after a workout, then definitely try a protein drink. You could be causing unneeded damage to your muscle.

I have used a protein supplement with my workouts for the last 8 years. I have personally noticed a difference between a protein powder drink that is filled with carbs and those that are low in carbs. I found that I had more energy, less fatigue and soreness was minimal unless I worked my muscles to exhaustion.

There have been many articles, TV shows and radio shows about the use of protein drinks. As far as I can remember, I have never read an article that showed protein harming the body or the muscle. It may be the safest thing to put into your body for body builders and non body builders. There are some protein complications with taking more than what is recommended. Yet if you stick to the recommended intake, your body may benefit from it. Moderation is the key to using protein effectively and safely.

I know a few people that use protein drinks as a way to lose weight. Others use it as a way to keep their muscles healthy without working out. Our bodies need protein and if you are not ingesting enough of it, a protein supplement is the way to go. Not enough protein can lead to an ineffective immune system. The question of when to take protein all depends on your workout goals.

Dr. Michelle Reyes at The Med Spot
Where Beauty, Art, and Medicine meet
By Gerry Furth-Sides

It's exciting to watch skin care update itself. Ophthalmologist, Dr. Michelle Reyes heads up The Med Spot. She is her own best, vibrant advertisement.

Michelle Reyes, MD & Director, is a Board Certified Ophthalmic and Cosmetic Surgeon. She graduated with a biomedical engineering degree at Arizona State University in 1988. She then went on to medical school at University of Louisville, graduating with honors in 1992. Dr. Reyes has been practicing ophthalmology in West Hills since 1997 when she graduated from her ophthalmology residency at UC Irvine. Her practice expanded into minimally invasive cosmetic procedures in 2000, fulfilling her dream of "dedicating her medical practice to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures in a relaxing spa environment."

I already had trust before meeting Dr. Reyes because being a board certified physician means that she is periodically recertified by the board to ensure that her training is up to date, she adheres to a strict code of ethics, and fulfills continuing medical education requirements..

This is so important since many of the procedures are performed right in Med Spot. Dr. Reyes showed me around the very woodsy but unassuming office at the base of Topanga Canyon, and I felt totally confident about asking about her credentials, experience, outcomes or safety record.

To evaluate her past performance I researched Dr. Reyes' ratings on line. She ranked high in patient evaluations, including top scores in the " Would you recommend to a Friend or Family," category and in that of "levels of Trust" or "Do you trust your physician to make decisions/recommendations that are in your best interests?"

In the office I looked through albums of before-and-after photos of previous patients and actually was introduced to a current and very satisfied patient who happened to be in the office for a check up, and who had a complicated, medical procedure done.

Dr. Reyes introduced herself with a story about a procedure she had had done and why, in order to acquaint me with how she viewed procedures. She examined my face, then had me look into a mirror while asking me what I would like to change

After answering that I'd love another co2 laser treatment as I'd had before for sun damage, she laughed and gave me the same answer my now retired practitioner (and ophthalmologist, Dr. David Kamin did: "too aggressive."

And she offered other procedures along with their probable outcome, including a brow lift for droopy eyelids for medical even more than cosmetic reasons to treat a symptom of another health condition.

To fill in lines around my mouth, Dr. Reyes recommended RADIESSE®, a non-aminal derived wrinkle filler to fills-in lines and facial wrinkles plus replenishes volume and stimulates the production of natural collagen. Results last up to a year or more. Dr. Reyes invited questions and answered them thoroughly and clearly. She recommended Botox® for lines around my lips and the bridge of my nose.

Dr. Reyes emphasizes that she is not an "pioneer" and makes sure a procedure is tried and true before using it.

Med Spot also features, Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Cosmoderm®, ArteFill®, Cosmelan®, Physician Grade Chemical Peels, Isolaz™, Ppx Acne Treatments, Isolaz™ Skin Rejuvenation, ReFirme™, Laser Hair Removal, VBeam®, Sclerotherapy, Fraxel®, LipoDissolve™, Blepha-roplasty and a brand new weight loss program.

After Dr. Reyes explained the procedures she recommended, and gave me two very detailed brochures, she detailed costs. In addition being practical in price and procedure, I could have them done at one time or individually.

I asked what will be expected of me to get optimal results; what the risks involved would be; how long of a recovery period I can expect.

Though she left the decision up to me to think over, I had "before" photos taken in the office because even before this visit was over, I knew this was "the right spot."
