Telling Time in Luxury
By Staff Writer

U-Boat introduces its first complication watch- a split seconds chronograph with an additional seconds hand. It measures intermediate times before immediately "catching up" with the other hand, which has continued its movement. This intricate complication is also one of the most difficult to make, on par with the tourbillion and the minute-repeater. Ratrappante features an elegant face with black dial and cream numerals. The strap's façade is alligator with a rubber back.

Only 100 pieces of this limited edition watch have been produced. A special box presents this 50 mm masterpiece that retails for $14,750. Each watch bears a miniscule engraved plaque mounted on the right side of the watchcase indicating its individual number in the series. U-Boat is known for their oversized dials and this new design features a thicker case. Its a statement making watch from an unforgettable brand.

MOVEMENT: Arola-Alfred Rochat & Fils Automatic Rattrapante Chronograph derived from the Valjoux with a 30mm diameter, 8.10mm thickness, 25 rubies, the stem positioned at 9 o'clock. Soignée finishing, 4-position adjusted, 28,800 alternations per hour. Power Reserve 40-44 hours. FUNCTIONS: Hours, Minutes, Small Seconds at 3 o'clock, seconds chronograph, central rattrapante coaxial, minute chronograph at 6 o'clock, hour chronograph at 12 o'clock. Date at 9 o'clock.

The designer is Italo Fontana who launched the U-Boat brand after having preserved the original drawings of U-Boat over 60 years ago! It was originally conceived (but never carried out) by the "Officine Fontana" in 1942 for the officers of its navy's U-Boats. "It was a stroke of genius that Italo kept the drawings and turned them into something more modern. Combining both we end up with a very classic design that is very forward," says Mounir Moufarriage, the visionary behind the brand. Mouf-arriage is so certain that the oversized watch is a developing trend that he urged the brand to create a line of watches that consisted solely of the 55mm size. And he should know…he used the same thought process when he helped breath new life into the Montblanc pen category. "It's so hard to be different in the watch category, but when I saw this watch I knew it would be something special, it has a strong identity."

U-Boat has a strong celebrity following including David Beckham, Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Tom Cruise and John Legend to name a few. U-Boat has distribution at 220 stores around the globe and 25 stores in the US; For more information visit www.u-boatwatch.it
