Choose One or All For Summer Fun: Lexus, Volvo, Hummer
By Rita Cook

Little can be said against the Lexus, Volvo or Hummer brand. Question is which one to choose when you need to find something that's just right for you? It all depends on your personality and what you're looking for.
Lexus LX 570
Lexus LX 570 can take it just right! Powerful engine meets comfy interior and you're going to feel like you have died and gone to heaven. Another note - the 2009 model boasts the same redesign from last year only with an optional luxury package and tinted rear side windows. Considered mid-size luxury in its class, think 20-inch alloy wheels, electronically controlled suspension with adaptive ride height, a power lift gate, sunroof, leather seating and even power-adjusted heated front seats with driver memory settings.
What You Need to Know: A strong V8 engine with standard features that surpass other model's run-of-the-mill options. Seats up to eight and there's a third-row seat. The 5.7-liter engine with 383 horsepower will make you smile with the power taking on all four wheels and the six-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift control. It's 0 to 60 in seven-plus seconds and this Lexus can also pull 8,500 pounds. Also, look for the Hill-Start Assist Control and the off-road Crawl Control made to hit the tough terrain as easily as the streets.
Miles Per Gallon: 12 miles in the city and 18 miles on the highway.
Cost: If you can afford $75,000 then go for it - right now!
Hummer H3
This big driving machine looks like something GI Joe might drive, but it does the trick no matter who you are. Off-road means go anywhere anytime. It also takes the streets easily and the seating inside is all about comfort. The Hummer H3 is a midsize sport-utility vehicle with 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, OnStar and a six-speaker CD player. Also check out the Alpha model with a bigger engine and bigger everything else
What You Need to Know: This year the H3 comes with several upgrades. Think Bluetooth connectivity, the hill-start assistance and a front locking differential with a rearview camera system. The H3 is a V8, with nearly 2.5-ton curb weight, a 3.7-liter inline engine and 239 horsepower. This one comes with the full-time four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case. Back seat drivers have it easy too as the H3 offers rear seats with plenty of legroom - headroom is sparser, but hey, it's a Hummer so hang on and ride.
Miles Per Gallon: 13 miles per gallon in the city and 18 miles per gallon on the highway.
Cost: Starting at $33,000 and up.
Volvo XC70 Wagon
This one is a wagon versus an SUV, but it's still a fun ride and it offers the same sort of cargo room-plus more just like the SUV. You can't go wrong with a Volvo XC70. The ride is a good one, lots of cargo space for anything you need to drag around and then standard safety features, Swedish design at its best. Added this year is bluetooth connectivity coming standard and there's also a Technology Package with satellite radio, bi-xenon headlights with washers, a premium audio system and rear-seat headphone jacks and audio controls.
What You Need to Know: Last year was a complete redesign and this year a turbocharged T6 model has been added. With an all-wheel drive standard this Volvo has a raised suspension, skid plates and it's geared for all-weather if you need it. For the base 235 horsepower and 3.2-liter is what it's all about. For the T6 trim expect a bit sportier with a turbocharged inline-6 and a 281 horsepower engine. 0 to 60 in 8.5 seconds. Note too the Collision Avoidance Package with an adaptive cruise control, collision warning system an auto-braking function a Vehicle Distance Alert, Driver Alert Control and a lane-departure warning system. No thinking involved.
Miles Per Gallon: 15 miles per gallon in the city and 22 miles per gallon on the highway.
Cost: Starting at around $38,000.
