Online Auctions
By Staff Writer

Whether selling one's Virginity or the rights to your first child's name, the limits continue to be stretched when it comes to items people are willing to sell these days via online auctions. Highlighting the trend towards novel (and sometimes borderline inappropriate) bids for a few extra bucks, newly launched auction site BidHere.com has put together its picks for the most bizarre and peculiar items recently offered for sale.

Imaginary Friend: A UK based man sold his imaginary friend named Jon Malipieman because he felt like he had grown out of him. In the listings for the product, the seller stated the following: "He is very friendly. Along with him, I will send you what he likes and dislikes along with his favorite things to do and his personal self portrait." Amazingly, Jon got 31 bids and ended up selling his invisible friend for over $3,000 dollars.

Virgin Mary Toast: The Lord may move in mysterious ways but his mother, it is claimed, has chosen a rather ordinary piece of cheese on toast to make herself known to the world! Diana Duyser from Florida sold a piece of cheese toast online which she believed portrayed the face of the Virgin Mary. In the end, this half-eaten slice of elderly cheese on toast hailing Virgin Mary's image attracted over 100,000 hits on the auction Web site.

More Than Just Some Dirty Water: A lucky lad put his used bath water on sale claiming that he no longer needed the good fortune that the mysterious solution provided him with, but wished to pass it on to an individual who will use it to accomplish good things.

Will Yourself to Riches: An elderly man proved that time is money as he sold the rights to his will by offering the highest bidder at least $20,000 upon his death.

R U My Friend? Money really can buy happiness, at least according to one man who auctioned off his friendship. He advertised that he would not only listen to everything you had to say, but would also be a shoulder to cry on when needed. Starting at 99 cents, the online auction eventually closed at $7,600.

Like a Virgin: While some wait for marriage, others are turning their sexcapades into a hefty business transaction. With the recession in full force, Natalie Dylan, a 22-year-old student from San Diego, Calif., put her virginity on the auction block as a way to pay for a master's degree in Family and Marriage therapy. The Daily Telegraph reported that the price has now hit $3.7 million after 10,000 bids.

Soul for Sale: A man struggling to raise money for the Christmas season offered to sell his soul for $1 million on the net. The proud owner would be allowed to take the soul home in a glass jar along with a contract relinquishing ownership. The man said "I'm not really using it lately - and selling it on the internet is better than letting the Devil have it."

We Shall Call Him "Baby": A 33 year old woman named Melissa Heuschkel auctioned the rights to name her baby on the internet. After having a hard time deciding the name for her fourth child, Melissa decided to turn to an online bidding site. The rights for naming her child sold for a whopping $15,100
dollars.
