Welcome to the Leonis Adobe Museum 2009 Lecture Series! Here are three lectures coming up.
Moses brings plenty Lakota Spiritual Leader
Mar. 28 1 - 3 p.m.
Moses Brings Plenty was born on the Pine Ridge Reservation in S. Dakota. A well known Lakota spokesman and spiritual leader, he is also a model and actor. He has appeared in several movies including Hidalgo and Pirates of the Caribbean. Moses is also the drummer for Brule, an award winning Native American band.
Joe Morris World War II Navajo Code Talker
Saturday, Feb. 28, 1 - 3 p.m.
Joe Morrise is a well known Navajo Indian who served in WWII as a code talker. Born in 1926 and raised on a Navajo reservation in AZ, he joined the Marines in 1944 at the age of 17. He was honored with several awards including Rifle Expert and China Occupation medals, certificates of appreciation from the President of the United States and the California Senate, and a combat ribbon from the Pacific theater.
Justin Farmer Native American Basket Weaver
Saturday Jan. 24 1 - 3 p.m.
Justin Farmer is an Ipai Northern San Diego Indian, and is a well known author, basket expert. Collector and authority on Native American artifacts. His lecture will feature the materials and aesthetics of Native American basket weaving.
