It's the Housewives
By Crystal A. Johnson

Back by popular demand, It's the Housewives makes its return at the Whitefire Theatre. The play is infectiously delightful. Call it a cross between Hairspray meets Desperate Housewives. The audience is in for a grand old time. The lyrics are witty. The music echoes the 50's and 80's. The wardrobe is bright. The talent unrelenting. Moreover, the lead part of Becca played Jamey Hood is the breakout performance of the show. She is an incredibly comedic actress the likes of Shelley Duvall and Carol Burnett. She is also an animated singer especially when she performs the song, "Ironing Board." With songs like "Ironing Board", what is all the fuss about? The story centers around three bored housewives who can sing. They take their act to the PTA talent show and are somewhat discovered.

It's the Housewives makes fun of the identifiable boredom many housewives encounter and depicts three creative women determined to have fuller lives while maintaining that they are housewives. The sing songs of domestic life. Their fame soars to the heights of Menudo with international and domestic popularity. They even manage to have a variety show.

On the flipside, the story shows the very real dynamics of fame gone awry, Issues of gossip, jealousy, and the paparazzi are met. Do they beat the odds? My suggestion is to see the play.

The Housewives sold out during its short run in the fall but made its return two weeks ago for a 12 week run. Jane Huber is the playwright and songwriter. She is also an emmy winning writer. Huber admits, bits and piece of her life are entwined in the story. The talent doesn't stop with Jane Huber. Her husband also lends his talent as songwriter and musical composer. His credits include being hand picked by Sir Paul McCartney to be a guitarist for his band, Wings.
