We Feed On Bread And Magic
By Staff Writer

Annette Matrisciano will be showcasing her newest series of mermaid paintings, poetry and mythology at the Sea Breeze Art Gallery in Ventura this January 15 through February 21, 2009.

Raised by her grandparents in a small town on Lake Chautauqua, N.Y., Annette began a relationship with nature that she says is the underlying theme in all of her artwork, particularly in her latest works including her new book. She was greatly influenced and supported in studying art by her three aunts.

After receiving her BFA she taught the subject with theater in Hollywood for eight years, then, while raising her three children she began writing mystery novels. Three decades later she has resumed painting, at her Mermaid Raptures studio in Sea Breeze Art Gallery, and realizes how intricately enmeshed her writing and painting are with each other. The artwork, story telling and poetry come together in her new book, We Feed On Bread And Magic.

She explains, "We Feed On Bread And Magic, the title for my showcase and book, bridge the worlds in my mind's eye to what I perceive as 'the big picture', refining being human believing that evolution is a forward movement, and we are still works in progress. Every moment, awake or sleeping, we are feeding our imagination."

The title of the showcase and her book, We Feed On Bread and Magic, offers new reflections into the world of the mythic mermaid. As an author of mysteries, Annette has taken her story telling skills into a new realm. Her images and poetry are captivating and thought provoking. Annette believes that the power of art and myth translates to how we think of ourselves fitting into a greater consciousness that embraces what we share while celebrating our unique differences.

Annette has been a featured artist, exhibiting in both oil and acrylic, for Santa Barbara's First Thursday several times.

The public is invited to attend two receptions for the artist on Saturday, January 17 and Saturday, February 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for both events.
