2009 PLAYBOY JAZZ FESTIVAL PRESENTS RENOWNED JAZZ ICONS

Some of the most exciting and internationally renowned names in jazz will come together when the 2009 Playboy Jazz Festival, now in its 31st year, presents a stellar lineup of talent Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th at the landmark Hollywood Bowl. The two day event, which annually attracts over 35,000 fans, celebrates the entire spectrum of jazz. This year's slate of performers will feature an eclectic mix of veteran jazz icons, today's hottest young stars, world music performers, and Festival favorites.

PIERCE COLLEGE FAMILY FARM CENTER OPENS IN WOODLAND HILLS

The Pierce College Farm Center spans across 30 acres as one of the last operating farms in the San Fernando Valley. The Farm Center and runs through the Fall Harvest Festival.

This spring's first official fruit is the strawberry with almost baseball sizing and containing over 160% daily recommended vitamin C with just one serving! Enjoy a wide variety of fresh produce like avocados, oranges, seasonal vegetables, lemons and limes, jams and other specialty products not found in traditional stores and all produce are locally grown from local area farmers.

The Pierce College Farm Center is open daily from 10am to 6pm. The Farm Center has opened a weekly Thursday night Farmers Market with various vendors from 5 pm to 9 p.m. throughout summer - all the way up to the Harvest Festival. A Mammoth Journey: The Elephant Odyssey in the San Diego Zoo

Discover animals that roamed Southern California 12,000 years ago including mammoths and saber toothed tigers, and get to meet their living relatives. The new 7.5 acre exhibit also incorporates hands on fun such as a fossil dig for kids through soft rubble, and life size replicas of prehistoric animals. The cornerstone of the habitat is the 2.5 acre Elephant Odyssey that includes a 137,000 gallon pool, gentle rolling hills, hidden drinkers and feeders to entice foraging, and the half-acre Conrad Prebys Elephant Care Center. The Stars of Elephant Odyssey from the Wild Animal Park are: Ranchipur- The Big Guy, he's the male (bull); Mary -The Boss Lady; Cookie -The "Rock Star", Cha-Cha- The Playful Fashionista and baby of the group; Sumithi-Queen of the Zoo Elephant Crew and Devi- The Clever One, both raised in the Children's Zoo; and Tembo-The Independent Thinker and the only African elephant in the herd.

The California condor, a bird once on the brink of extinction, will also be on exhibit in Elephant Odyssey and will be visible to guests for the first time in 60 years. Other
habitats include tapirs, guanacos, pronghorns, camels, horses and llamas.
