Salsa Recipe Contest announced for 2009 Oxnard Salsa Festival

Red or Hot, Spicy or Fruity…all flavors of home-made salsa are eligible for entry into the Great Oxnard Salsa Challenge 2009 on July 26, at the 16th Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival.

This year’s recipe contest is guaranteed to be hotter and spicier than ever as amateur salsa makers vie for first place in six salsa categories: Best Red, Best Green, Best Fruit, Best Hot, Best Medium, and Best Mild -- as well as top honors and a $150 grand prize as the Judge’s Choice winner. Pre-registration is required for all contestants.

There is also a Professional Salsa Contest with awards in eight categories. Entry forms and information for both contests are available at www.oxnardsalsafestival.com. Entries for the amateur contest are due by July 15th.

The amateur recipe contest is one of many attractions. The Festival features salsa bands, non-stop salsa dancing, 75 flavors of salsa to sample, a vibrant vendor marketplace, international foods, ‘Kids Korner' attractions, recipe contests and chef demonstrations. The festival attracts an estimated 45,000 attendees each year. The event will be held July 25 and 26; and runs from 11 am to 7 pm both days. Admission and parking are free.

There will be food, live music with top musicians and singers, a children's play area with bounces, face painting, and a complete replica of Noah's ark for children to go through.
