New Gluten Free & Vegan Menus at The Pizza Cookery

The Original Pizza Cookery in Woodland Hills was established in 1975 and continues to be under the same family ownership. The Pizza Cookery creates a warm and welcome environment for everyone that walks through its doors. As you enter the restaurant you are met with a bit of nostalgia, with antique vending machines, sawdust on the floor and a cozy feeling. The Cookery serves a full Italian menu and has now added a new gluten free and vegan alternative lifestyle menu that is so flexible, it is able to accommodate the needs of customers who can maintain their diet without compromising quality and taste. The new menu includes gluten free as well as vegan pizza, pasta, salads, desserts, vegan sandwiches and GF beer as well as other drinks.
Owners Jordan and Barbara Kempner are very excited to offer this menu to those with dietary issues or health concerns. "It was a long and arduous process of putting this menu together and we are thrilled that we have been able to serve a great need in the community! We have just been certified for safe practices for gluten free food handling through the Gluten Intolerance Group. We are very proud of this certification to know that we are doing everything in our power to avoid cross contamination issues. We have ingredient policies and procedure manuals available for our customers to view and our staff has been thoroughly trained. "
"We will soon be expanding the alternative lifestyle menu to include gluten free vegan eggplant parmesan and gluten free sandwiches. We have also added natural Honest Kids and Zevia all natural sodas. These products contain no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners and they taste great! We have been fortunate to find smaller manufacturers of new generation gluten free and vegan products that are big on taste! We will be attending the Natural Foods Expo in March to find new products that will be a welcome addition to the new menu. The choices are growing and becoming more mainstream. "According to Jordan.
As a nurse, Barbara was bothered by the fact that so many people with issues such as Celiac disease who follow a gluten free diet and children with autism who practice a gluten free and or dairy free diet were so limited when dining out. "It makes us so happy to receive letters thanking us for recognizing the need and taking the initiative to bring this menu to life. When a parent tells you that their child has not had a pizza out for three years, it makes all of the hard work well worth it! We have heard countless number of times from customers that they have a friend or family member who is gluten intolerant or know of an autistic child whose family is so concerned about eating out that they simply don't. It makes us feel good that we are able to improve the quality of someone's life."
