STRESSFUL TIMES and OUR PETS
By Valli Aman

Exactly one year ago, I received a letter from my Equity Line of Credit Company stating two weeks earlier, my credit had been frozen and that the balance of monies I might have borrowed from this account would no longer be available to me. I had heard of financial catastrophes during the past couple years but had simply not thought of this happening to me. It was more of an emotional shock than financial. After all I had a 799 credit rating on the day the letter arrived and not one late payment in anything for years.

I was stunned. I had felt in my mind that this would be at least part of a slush fund, there for emergencies, and now it was gone. I had been fooling myself and felt terribly disappointed, like I was wearing a broken string of beads that was falling apart, a couple beads at a time. I took it all personally.

I moaned away the most of the day, practicing self-pity, blame and finally I was able to stay quiet for a couple hours. I decided I should venture out for a head-clearing car ride and to search for something to eat for dinner.

Since I didn't feel like preparing a real meal, I decided to run into Costco for a prepared Chicken. Yes! Emergency food. Well, I returned home, sliced some chicken, apples and veggies for my dog, some for myself, sat down and ate.

After only 10 minutes I noticed that my dog was lying on the floor. She was responsive but chose to just stay with her head down on the floor. This wasn't quite like her and for some time I watched as though to see if she was ill or not. Bedtime arrived and I slept. So did my dog.

The next morning my dog and I ate breakfast but she still seemed lethargic. I fed her more chicken and the combination she had the evening before. She seemed to have no reaction to the food but wasn't looking at me. I decided "6-more hours of this and I'm taking her into the Vet," which I did that afternoon.

She was weighed, reviewed, viewed, tested and all samples examined and remained in the back room with the doctor and attendants. I went into the waiting room after her initial examination and while tests were taking place.

Within 10 minutes the doctor came out into the waiting room and since there was no one in there but me, he sat down beside me. He had a very concerned look on his face.

He then said the following: "Valli, your dog is fine. We've done all the tests, and she checks out well. She is healthy." Then he reached over to take my hand…which I allowed…and he continued by saying, "Your dog is OK but I am wondering what is the matter with you?"

And, with that I shared a small of information about my current standing and about the equity line letter that seemed to turn my world upside down and thanked him for his concern. I then stood up, went over to pay the bill which was $200…$200 for someone to tell me to "knock it off and smile; it's effecting your dog!" And, I got it and want to pass this message along.

With all that's going on in the news, world, our pockets, our minds and in our hearts these days, our dogs and other pets need to be considered for their sensitivity. On a gloomy day if you can only smile for your pet dog, gerbil, bird or cat, then do so. You'll brighten your pet's day and in turn your own.

Learn from your pet. They know a lot about our energy and if we allow their energy to come back to us, they'll behave and be happy, just because it makes us happy too.
