Preparing for summer? Which Homeopathic remedies you should have?
By Janet Little CN

Springtime is already here and summer is just around the corner. This year, be prepared for any summer mishaps by stocking your medicine cabinet with homeopathic remedies.
First, what is Homeopathy? Homeopathy has been around longer than Hippocrates. It seeks to cure in accordance with natural laws of like cures like. Homeopathy was "discovered" in the early 1800s by a German physician, Samuel Christian Friedrich Hahnermann. Hahnermann became disillusioned with the medical practices of bledding, cauterized, blistered, and purging of patients in the Eighteenth and nineteenth-century. Hahnermann left his medical practice in pursuit of exploring the world of homeopathy.
The Law of Similars:
The term of homeopathy comes from the Greek homoios (similar) and pathos (Suffering or sickness). The fundamental law of homeopathy is based on the laws of similars, or like cures like; therefore, the law states that a remedy can cure a disease if it produces in a healthy person the symptoms similar to those of the disease.
Remedies to stock:
Arnica - Prevents shook and the sore bruised feeling that occurs after an accident, fall, blow or injury. Use first, and then if needed use Ruta grav or Rhus tox.
Ruta grav - Helps with sprains to the wrist and ankle, specifically the torn and wrenched tendons and ligaments. Also helpful in the dislocation of the shoulder and tennis elbow. Feel sore and stiff. May feel worse when lying down and in cold, wet weather.
Rhus tox - Overexertion when did not limber up first. Useful for torn ligaments and tendons in sprains and strains. Pains are worse when beginning to move, but feels better once moving. Called the "Rusty Gate". Better from motion.
Ledum - Good for sprained wrist/ankle. Also good for puncture wounds from sharp objects and bites from rats, cats and mosquitoes. Area of sprain or wound feels cold, and is better by using cold applications, worse from warm applications.
Apis - Always call your doctor if there is a severe allergic reaction. Severe reactions to bee/wasp/jelly fish stings, where there are red and puffy (not hard), hot, tense swellings with burning, stinging pains and itching. Person feels restless. The area is worse form heat and from hot applications.
Arsenicum album - Food poisoning. Vomiting and diarrhea together. Extreme weakness and disability, yet restless, anxious fearful and irritable. Extremely chilly, but wants the window open. Thirsty for sips of warm water. Burning pains.
Nux vomica - Good for car sickness. Great sensitivity to the least movement or noise. Constant nausea. Wants to vomit, but can't. Constipation. Very chilly. Splitting headache. From over indulgence of food and drink. Irritable.
Cantharis - Use burn ointment. The area of the burn is red. A burning sensation is experienced. Can use a 6C potency every 15 minutes till pain has lessened. Repeat if pain returns.
Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation
By Dr Randy Martin, OMD, PhD, LAc

Acupuncture has been used to treat skin complaints and reduce signs of aging for centuries. In fact, facial rejuvenation acupuncture, also known as cosmetic acupuncture, has a recorded history going as far back as China's Sung Dynasty (960AD - 1270AD), when the Empress and the Emperor's concubines used it to engender beauty and good health.
A number of my patients have recently been asking about the use of acupuncture to help remove wrinkles on the face and to tighten the skin. I've been doing this type of treatment for 25+ years, and it works very, very well. Generally, you need 2 treatments per week for 8 weeks. Then rest for two weeks, and do another round, but less often. Then a tune-up treatment once per month. By the way, it also gives you energy and increases your serotonin levels for relaxation.
It will work even better if we are to add Chinese herbal formulas and a homeopathic remedy. If you are willing to take a look at your nutrition and diet, we can also make some corrections that will help with your overall health. Your face reflects your overall health, so the extent to which we improve your health and energy, this will also show up in a healthier, more vibrant face.
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture can improve muscle tone, increase collagen production, tighten pores and boost circulation and moisture in the skin. Moreover, when acupuncture is used to create overall balance within the body, the physical, mental and emotional patterns that contribute to aging are addressed, helping you look and feel younger.
Benefits of Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation:
- Increases the production of collagen and elastin
- Improves muscle tone (preventing further aging and wrinkles)
- Improves local lymph and blood circulation
- Softens or erases fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduces the depth of deeper lines
- Decreases bags (puffiness) under the eyes
- Reduces or eliminates acne and rosacea
- Provides a consistently smoother and brighter face
So hold the chemicals and bring on the needles! Although botox might help for some people, you have to keep repeating the process. With the acupuncture face life, since we are actually improving your health, you won't have to keep repeating the process, and it will give you glowing, more vibrant skin tone.
The typical cost for acupuncture is about $70, but many acupuncturists will be happy to offer you a sliding scale if you don't have health insurance which covers acupuncture. Compare this to the cost of plastic surgery and you'll see quite a savings.
By the way, acupuncture and Chinese herbs will also work for breast enhancement, and is also much less expensive then a typical breast augmentation, and without any of the side effects as well.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the Qi in the body. Qi, or Chi, is the body's own invisible energy that circulates through meridians. Meridians are the pathways themselves, much the same as the nervous system, or cardiovascular system, by meridians are invisible and based on electro-magnetic energy in the body. There are machines that can actually measure this energy.
There is a rise all over the country for more natural procedures, and facial acupuncture definitely falls into this category. People are finally catching on that natural procedures such as acupuncture have no side effects, and really work. It's the future!
