Fall Hairstyles
By Jara Anton
The autumn winds are blowing and the magic of the holidays will soon be upon us. Inspired by the changing leaves, you are looking for a new hairstyle. You need something edgy, something different. You want something crazy enough to rock out on the weekends, but, something that will melt into your career work week. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with the hottest fashions of both the east and west coasts. However, I have compiled a master list of the finest, wildest and flattering hairstyles for you. I humbly offer some ideas for your new fall coif.
First up is the fringe-y bangs look. A chic set of heavy bangs will instantly define your face. Worried about looking like a little girl? Don't fret; these bangs are way more sophisticated than the wispy baby bangs of your youth. This style is hot on every face, but, will work best on the oval and heart shapes. Also, straight hair with a normal to thick texture is another requirement of this style. The bangs will be high maintenance, as they will require a trim at every 3 weeks. The best way to wear this style is to apply a shine serum and flatiron the ends to make it poker straight.
If this isn't your particular style, don't fret. The layered look was all over the runway this season. Think face-framing layers that are much softer and more complex than the layer cuts of yesterday. The layered look is perfect for the girl with "heavy" hair who wants a little more texture and depth. Ask for the razor at the crown but, be prudent. Over texturizing will turn it into a shag cut before you can say "Beach Blanket Bingo". If you are planning on a color treatment as well as a layered look, keep the new color very simple. Too much contrast with the texture and color will turn your head into a science experiment gone wrong. For that piecey, messy look that's just this side of sexy, apply a texturizer from top to bottom.
Still haven't found one you love? Get ready for the Mushroom Bob! Called so because of its shape, it hits right at the ears and is slightly curled in to resemble an adorable little mushroom. Think button, not shitake. It works best with medium to light weight hair, only because of the tendency to fall right into place. Chances are, your stylist has heard of this cut; however, ask for a layered bob with smooth, soft pieces. Anything sharp and jagged will kill the soft top look. It is a daring cut, and unless you're a tall, lanky girl, doublethink this 1920's Gatsby stylized cut.
The Pixie is another cut that is absolutely adorable, yet daring at the same time. Just because you're not a supermodel doesn't mean you should try. It is a very short on the sides, slightly longer at the top cut that compliments those with fine bone structure. All hair textures will do it, not including curly. This cut will require a maintenance cut every six weeks. If you are shy about your face and neck, try something different, as they will be on display 24/7. A shaping paste for the shorter pieces are all you really need, product-wise.
Layered Bob is a style just this side of supermodel chic, meaning you don't necessarily have to work the catwalk to look hot in this style. It works with fine to medium texture. It sits lightly at the nape of the neck, flowing out into layers as it graduates down from the crown. Don't let the low-maintenance style fool you; you'll have to style more than some of the other cuts, because of the many layers. If you have a round or oval face, you should request softly graduated layers at the ears and chin area.
The All One Length look should only be attempted on very straight hair, hopefully fine to normal texture. By its nature, a very poker straight, angular shape of one layer. You could pair it with the fringey bangs to really step it up. However, the punch line of this style is its sharp angles, so you will be constantly going in for trims to keep up the extremely sharp, straight across shape.
Every girl with extremely curly hair knows what it's like to be cast out of the running for new styles. Curly girls, don't worry, this season, no one forgot about you! Last but not least is the Crazy Curls look. It's been done to death, however this year it's special. You will need long layers place in your 'do with random pieces to pull the natural flow and corral the curly hair into place.
Fall's newest hairstyles are here and they are fierce!
