HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
THE MUSICAL GIVES BACK, BIG TIME!
By Tony Reverditto

Is there anyone who hasn't read the book or enjoyed the animated television special Dr. Seuss', HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS? If not, then surely you've seen the screen adaptation, starring the one and only, Jim Carey! Well, whether you have or you haven't; here is your chance to experience the magic of this classic tale in a live stage musical version at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.
The Grinch's dog, Max soulfully narrates the unfoldment of his masters' plan through verbalizing his thoughts. He takes us through the Grinch's journey of self-loathing to self-realization and finally enlightenment. Someone whose heart is "two sizes too small" over-compensates by inflicting his bitterness upon the innocent. Since misery loves company, the Grinch plots to steal Christmas from all the good little Who's from Whoville. And that's just what he does, by literally taking all of the decorations, gifts and the holiday feast. Somehow, the innocent, non-materialistic citizens are unaffected for they already know the true meaning of Christmas. So, the Grinch's elaborate plan backfires and the true spirit of inner peace shines through and thank God (or would it be Dr. Seuss?) for happy endings, because the Grinch finally has a revelation and gives Christmas back.
Reprising the immortal title role of "The Grinch" is Stefán Karl who does a great job with hilarious body language and facial expressions. He currently plays the role of the villain "Robbie Rotten" in Nickelodeon's cable series, Lazy Town. Currently shown in more then 120 countries, Lazy Town won the prestigious BAFTA award for the episode, "Robbie's Greatest Misses". His co-star is five time Emmy winner, John Larroquette as "Old Max" was amusing and is best known for his portrayal of Dan Fielding on the long running sitcom, Night Court.

Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! The Musical based on the original book by Dr. Seuss, conceived and supervised by three-time Tony Award® winner, Jack O' Brien. It is directed well by Matt August and choreographed by Bob Richard based on original choreography by John DeLuca. Book and lyrics are by Timothy Mason with music by Mel Marvin and additional music and lyrics by Albert Hague and Dr. Seuss. The awesome scenic designs are by John Lee Beatty, which are inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations. The Costume design created by Robert Morgan, hair/wig design by Thomas Augustine, make-up design by Angelina Avallone and special effects design by Gregory Meeh all are reminiscent of the original cartoon. The moody lighting design by Pat Collins and D.M. Wood and sound design is by Acme Sound Partners were effective. The show would not be what it is without the orchestrations of Michael Starobin, music supervision by Joshua Rosenblum, musical direction by Ron Colvard which perfect and the song "You're a Mean One, Mister Grinch" was the frosting on the cake.
