Jared Diamond PhD, Pulitzer Prize Author and Scientist,
Speaks for Santa Monica Mountains

Mountains Restoration Trust will be holding a special fundraiser to help expand both awareness and acreage of Cold Creek Preserve. The preserve serves as a lifeline for wildlife as well as individuals who take pleasure in the great outdoors. Speaking at MRT's fundraiser is Jared Diamond, PhD, a Pulitzer Prize author..

Diamond combines diverse disciplines of physiology, ecology, conservation biology and human history to address environmental problems and societies. He has published eight books and nearly 600 articles.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward adding 78 acres to Cold Creek Preserve. The trail corridor will add a 1.6-mile link offering the public an opportunity to enjoy Cold Creek watershed's biological diversity. The acquisition will also assure that the parcel remains an east-to-west wildlife corridor that links state and national park lands.

The fundraiser is Nov. 12, in the grand ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel, Westlake Village. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served from 6 -7:30 p.m. and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and may be purchased online at www.mountainstrust.org or by check mailed to Mountains Restoration Trust Headwaters Corner, 3815 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Calabasas, CA 91302. (818) 591-1701 ext 206.

The proceeds raised will be donated to sponsor children in the greater Los Angeles area for non-profit youth sports organizations, registration fees and scholarships. The Get Together Foundation, a non-profit organization, will host this event and 100% of the funds raised from ticket sales will be donated to the participating organizations. The proceeds will provide children in need with the funds to participate in youth sports such as basketball, track and field, football and cheerleading.

Steve Garvey, former Dodger is just one of the celebrity athletes appearing at the event. The "Kids Play Benefit Concert" will feature live music by top artists from hip hop to rock & roll, offering a little something for everyone.
