1,001 Things They Won't Tell You: An Insider's Guide to Spending, Saving and Living Wisely
By Rita Cook

As the saying goes you don't know what you don't know until you find out you don't know it. In the book "1,001 Things They Won't Tell You: An Insider's Guide to Spending, Saving and Living Wisely" author Jonathan Dahl gives reader insight into the many things that consumers are missing out on when it comes to saving money or knowing what to do in order "not" to get cheated.

As one reviewer said, "The book teaches you how to… become a smarter consumer. I'm so glad that I read it. But here's a list of people who won't be: My accountant, my eye doctor, my utility company, my utility company, my 401(k) provider…"

This book will help you make sure you get the most for your money no matter where you are or what you are spending and buying. Just imagine if you had insider knowledge on how your gas station, the plumber, the supermarket or the preschool operated. You would probably be much better equipped to handle the choices you have to make when dealing with these various businesses and using their services.

In addition to Dahl's knowledge (he is the editor-in-chief of "SmartMoney, The Wall Street Journal Magazine and has worked at other magazines relating to finance as well), these magazines have always understood what the consumers do not about spending their money and handling the businesses they deal with accordingly.

In this book there are 100 different industries, institutions and professions that are covered including information as diverse as the fact that veterinarians won't tell you that vaccinating your pet may do more harm than good or that nursing homes won't tell you that they are more careless with the drugs that they give out than you could ever imagine or that gourmet grocers won't tell you that their bottled water is actually tap water. Or, did you know that regarding hospitals you can negotiate your bill. That's right, the bills they send you are negotiable. It's quite a bit of information in one book and worth every dime to buy and read it.

It was actually more than a decade ago that "SmartMoney" published their first book in this particular brand called "10 Things Your Real Estate Agent Won't Tell You." Since that time these tips and bits of important consumer information have grown into valuable pieces of much needed informational offerings and have also begun to play a big role in the magazine's overall features and editorial.

For this latest release, the book simply updates some statistics and facts, adding fresh and usable information and increasing the books value by including important sidebars that will also steer the reader in the right direction. Also expect "to do" lists, advice, fun things to read to keep you interested and even insight from experts in the fields that these 1,001 things are related to by subject.

Choose to read the entire book in order or just find the chapters and topics that interest you or that can serve you in your daily life immediately when dealing with the various businesses offering you a particular service.

The best way to save money is to know the inside scoop. Dahl is the perfect person to make sure you're armed and dangerous with the right information.

Indeed, "1,001 Things They Won't Tell You: An Insider's Guide to Spending, Saving and Living Wisely" is a longer version of the "SmartMoney" column, luckily just compiled all in one place just for you. With Dahl's knowledge too you can see him on television as a personal finance expert. In addition to his job as Editor-in-Chief he is also responsible for the content at Smartmoney.com with a combined total readership of three million consumers just like yourself who want to make sure they get the most for their money every day.
