American Wine & Food 27th Anniversary Festival
By Bruce Wildstein

On October 3, 2009, the American Wine & Food Festival will celebrate the 27th edition of their fundraising event at Universal Studios from 6 - 11 p.m. A major benefit for Los Angeles area Meals on Wheels, this sellout event will feature over 35 of the nation's top restaurants and chefs in addition to over 75 premium wines and wineries. Hosted by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck and Barbara Lazaroff, the event attracts over 2,500 attendees on the Universal Studios backlot. Set against a beautifully designed atmosphere, generous food samplings will be provided by such notable restaurants as Spago, Matsuhisa, Palate Food & Wine, Norman's (Miami), Payard New York, Manzanita Lake Tahoe, Four Seasons Maui, Craftsteak, Café Annie, Sam Choy's (Hawaii), and others. Guests will be greeted with complimentary champagne as they enter the party. There will also be an extensive silent auction featuring over 200 items including vacations and stays at elegant hotels and resorts, premium wine packages, jewelry, celebrity memorabilia, and many other VIP items. All night entertainment will be provided by a ten-piece dance band as well as a festive late night disco lounge featuring gourmet desserts and sparkling wines.
A Friday night kickoff event takes place on October 2. This smaller and more intimate party features gourmet food tastings and premium spirits in an upscale atmosphere. On Sunday, October 4, the Chef's Grand Tasting Dinner takes place at Wolfgang Puck's Spago restaurant in Beverly Hills. This event will be attended by the participating festival chefs and will feature a gourmet six-course dinner with fine wine pairings.
In addition to regular tickets for the Saturday night event, VIP tickets for a one-hour pre-event cooking demonstration by Wolfgang Puck are also available.
The American Wine & Food Festival has raised over 23 million dollars in the past 26 years. Volunteers deliver meals each day for home bound and elderly persons by Los Angeles area Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels chapters in Southern California include West Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Topanga, and the San Fernando Valley. For more information and to purchase tickets, check their website at http://www.awff.org/ or call 310-777-3707.
