Farmers' Market Returns to Whizins Market Square
By Katie Rhault

After a ten -year absence, Whizin Market Square has a certified farmers' market again. The Whizin Market Square Farmers' Market is the brainchild of Bill Tucker of Tucker Investments, the owner of the Market Square, and Jennifer McColm, creator of twenty other farmers' markets, including those in Calabasas, Pacific Palisades and Brentwood.
Open all year round, every Tuesday, between the hours of 3pm and 8pm, the farmers' market is located on the south side of the square between the Canyon Club and The Beadiak.
The market boasts some of the best, freshest and locally grown produce in the state, as well as fresh cut flowers, locally grown nuts, dried fruits and artisan breads and pastries.
Underwood Family Farms will be at the market every week with their incredible fruit and vegetables grown just down the road at their beautiful 100 plus acre farm. At this time of the year you can buy the freshest carrots, celery & greens from this long established family farm.
Not to be outshone, Arnett Farms, famous for their sweet navel oranges will have their stand laden with the freshly harvested persimmons, pomegranates. Like Underwood, Arnett will be at the Whizin Market Square farmers' market every week, rain or shine.
"The farmers' market looks fantastic," said Bill Tucker. "Can you imagine how it will look in the stone fruit season?" "As usual, Jennifer has done a remarkable job setting up the farmers' market."
And the shop owners at the square feel the same. Bungalow says she is excited to have the weekly market on their doorstep. "It looks wonderful," said Kim, "it totally changes the atmosphere of the square." "It's got that European feel to it which really goes with the atmosphere we have created here with the tasteful antique stores in the Square."
The farmers' market also has some of the finest and most beautiful cut flowers grown locally by Eufloria as well a selection of artisan bread and pastries second to none. Every Tuesday you will be offered mouth-watering pastries and cakes made fresh and from the finest ingredients. Sample their cakes, pastries & bread. You will keep coming back for more.
Local resident Jennifer McColm is probably the most successful creator of farmers' markets in California having set up more than 30 in the last twelve years, among them, markets in Brentwood, Calabasas, Pacific Palisades and Melrose Place.
"I think a European style farmers market fits perfectly with all the charming treasured incredible antique shops at the Square," said Jennifer. "The store owners are so supportive of what we are doing. "It's fantastic."
Jennifer is looking forward to working with the community, or as she puts it, "Having their input on what they want to see every week, getting the right mix of farmers and artisans, creating a space where people can get to know local farmers and artisans, a space where friends can meet friends and sample delicious fruits and mouthwatering pastries, and a place where people can browse the antique sores as well as shopping for healthy, locally grown produce and products." "Actually, it's not just a space, it's creating an atmosphere," said Jennifer.
