The delicious taste of Hatch Chile Peppers is the pride of Southern New Mexico, where the annual Hatch Chile Festival lures thousands of visitors every Labor Day weekend. Here in Southern California, we only need visit our local Gelson’s to share the same seasonal celebration! This year, Gelson’s will host Hatch Chile roasting and tasting events at select stores each Saturday from August 10 - 31.
Gelson’s has long been a local advocate for Hatch Chiles, a mildly hot and savory pepper that, when perfectly roasted, yields a uniquely delicious flavor, both spicy and sweet, offering a flavor pop that enhances a range of recipes. In addition to complimentary onsite roasting for home recipes, Gelson’s customers can learn about the growing process from produce experts and get cooking ideas from staff. Of course, there’s also plenty of opportunities to sample Hatch Chile dishes – at the Gelson’s Kitchen, try the Hatch Chile Cornbread, Hatch Egg Salad, Hatch Chile/Grilled Corn/Heirloom Tomato Salad, Hatch Sausage and Peppers, Hatch Macaroni & Cheese, Mini Quiche Hatch Chile, or the Cream of Hatch Green Chile Soup.
Hatch Chile roasting will take place on Saturdays, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at the following Gelson’s stores:
August 10: Calabasas, La Costa/Carlsbad, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach
August 17: Irvine, Pacific Beach, Rancho Mission Viejo, Santa Monica
August 24: La Cañada Flintridge, Rancho Mirage, Santa Barbara, Sherman Oaks
August 31: Dana Point, Del Mar, Silver Lake, Thousand Oaks
